You can make sure your mare is out of heat for all of your events with strategic use of Regu-Mate®. The calendar shown here is an example of how Regu-Mate would fit into a typical show season.

For example: Events are scheduled on the 12th, 18th and 22nd for two months. Before the first event, begin administering Regu-Mate 4 days prior to the show date. Continue the Regu-Mate treatment for 15 consecutive days (blue). The mare can be trained or shown during Regu-Mate use (blue) or natural diestrus (black). Resume use of Regu-Mate toward the end of diestrus, 4 days prior to Event #5, to ensure that the mare will not come into heat (red) while performing.

Handling performance is maximized through carefully planned use of Regu-Mate® to suppress estrus. Regu-Mate can be given daily for 15 consecutive days. Then, it is recommended to discontinue use and let the mare cycle normally whenever possible. Working with her cycle this way is also more cost-effective.

Consult your veterinarian for help designing a specific program that matches your needs.

Example show schedule

  Blue = Regu-Mate administered daily (out of heat)
 Gray = Discontinuation of Regu-Mate (out of heat)
 Red  = Estrus (in heat)
 Black = Diestrus (out of heat)

Early in the spring, a mare’s estrous cycle can vary widely. However, during the normal breeding season, the interval to estrus ranges from 3 to 4 days, the estrous cycle may be from 5 to 7 days and diestrus from 14 to 16 days. Because of these variations, the scenarios presented here are not intended to be definitive examples of Regu-Mate performance in all mares. Ask your veterinarian for a plan customized around your mare and event schedule.
